Trading on the intraday electricity market backed with an energy storage asset is becoming increasingly profitable, but it is difficult. This is because it involves performing complex real-time arbitrages over multiple energy contracts all trading at the same time. In this session, our panellists explore the different types of storage assets, how are they traded, the challenges of trading on the intraday market as well as the role of algorithms in managing and trading storage assets. We’ll discuss opportunities for storage optimisation and monetisation within the power market.

We will cover:

  • What are storage assets and why are they needed?
  • How are storage assets traded now and how can they be monetised?
  • The role of algorithms in trading storage assets | Are algos needed and if so why and where can they be used?
  • What does the future look like for storage assets?

To discuss this, we’re joined by Hamdi Ammar, Commodity Management at TRIMET ALUMINIUM SE, Tarik Berrada, Data Science Team Lead at Trayport, and Daria Madjidian, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at Emulate Energy. The panel will be moderated by industry expert and CEO of Contango Markets, Clive Furness.

What We Cover

  • Why use an algo to trade in power and gas markets?
  • How do you get started using an algo?
  • What considerations are needed before embarking on your algo journey
  • How easy is it to make the transition from manual-only trading to manual and algo trading?
  • Benefits of embracing algorithmic trading as part of your strategy
